The Dassen Island signal tower (lighthouse) in many ways symbolises the key role which the nearby Atlantic Ocean plays in the viticulture of Darling, allowing slow ripening and so retaining delicate fruit flavours. This wine shows a full flavoured palate with layers of tropical fruit, aromas of ripe yellow gooseberries, green figs and asparagus. A well-balanced wine with a crisp acidity and green undertones that lingers on the aftertaste.
Decades ago, an old tractor launching a ski-boat off Yzerfontein was trapped on the beach during high tide and was never recovered - it can still be spotted occasionally when the tide is low. A Rich and complex wine with ripe plum and dark berry flavours, forest floor and kelp with underlying toasted oak notes finishing with a smooth and textured palate from integrated barrel maturation. These concentrated flavours follow through on the palate combined with a fine tannin structure, gives this wine a rich and complex finish.
